Why Eating Less Isn't Fixing Your Energy (and May Be Making It Worse)
If you've ever thought… "I just need to eat a little less… be a little more disciplined… and things will finally work again" — you're not alone.
A lot of women are doing exactly that — eating less, trying to be "good," cutting things out… and still feeling low energy, stuck with weight, and frustrated that nothing is changing.
Here's the Part No One Really Explains
At a certain point, your body doesn't respond to less by giving you more results. It responds by adapting.
- Slower metabolism
- Lower energy
- More stress on the system
Not because your body is broken — but because it's trying to protect you. As Dr. Stacy Sims often says, women are not small men. What worked at one stage of life doesn't always translate the same way for your body now.
It's Not Just About Food
When your body is under-fueled or under-recovered, it doesn't just affect weight. It affects your hormones, your energy, your ability to build or maintain muscle, and your nervous system.
Research around midlife hormones continues to show that these shifts affect far more than we were once told — impacting metabolism, energy, and how the body stores and uses fuel.
And one of the biggest missing pieces? True rest. Not just sleep — but actual recovery. Most women are "on" all day: thinking, doing, managing, pushing. Even when they sit down, their system hasn't actually slowed.
What Your Body May Actually Be Asking For
In Ayurveda, this would be seen as a depletion of your body's deeper reserves — what's often referred to as ojas. Ojas is the energy that supports resilience, vitality, and stability. When that's low, pushing harder doesn't help. Restoring it does.
So What Actually Helps?
Not more restriction. Not more force. But a shift toward:
- Supporting your metabolism
- Fueling your body appropriately
- Creating moments of real rest and regulation
- Working your system instead of against it
Information is helpful — but structure and support are what create change. Simple food shifts (not extremes), supporting your energy and metabolism, understanding what your body is actually asking for, and introducing real rest — not just "doing less," but resetting your system — are where lasting change begins.
